Ruth is best known for her wonderful portrayal of Gladys Pugh in the classic comedy series ‘Hi-De-Hi!’ for which she was nominated for a BAFTA.

A graduate of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she has covered every aspect of the theatrical and entertainment industry, making her one of the country’s most sought after leading ladies.

After leaving RADA, Ruth spent three years with ‘Black and White Minstrel Show’ and in various summer seasons with Lesley Crowther, Max Wall and Bruce Forsyth in the last days of provincial variety.

Following this she returned to the theatrical stage appearing in leading roles in the musicals ‘Robert and Elizabeth’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Man of La Mancha’.

Ruth has also appeared in the stage and screen versions of ‘Under Milk Wood’ .

Following the success of ‘Hi-De-Hi!’, Ruth went onto appear in the highly successful stage version of the show, which enjoyed phenomenal success at Bournemouth, Blackpool and at the Victoria Palace, London.

On stage, she appeared in ‘Mixed Feelings’, ‘Give Us a Crew’, ‘Find the Lady’, ‘A Taste of Honey’, ‘Dark Stranger’, ‘Don’t Start Without Me’, ‘A Murder is Announced’, ‘Verdict’ and ‘Five Blue Haired Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench’. In the West End she appeared in the musicals ‘Niteclub Confidential’ and ‘Bless the Bride’.

Ruth scored a huge personal success with her dynamic portrayal of the indomitable Mama Rose in the musical ‘Gypsy’. She toured Japan and the far east as Madame Giry in the musical ‘Phantom of the Opera’, and was Mrs Bardell to Harry Secombe’s ‘Pickwick’ at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Saddlers Wells Theatre and on an extended national tour.

Ruth appeared as Dorothy Brock in the hit musical ’42nd Street’, Miss Hannigan in 'Annie'. She has also appeared as Maria in ‘Twelfth Night’ at Regents Park Theatre London.

Ruth, has appeared in over 30 pantomimes, in every major city of the United Kingdom. As principal boy she has appeared in ’Robin Hood’, ’Dick Whittington’, ’Jack and the Beanstalk’ ’Cinderella’, ’Babes in the Wood’ and ’Robinson Crusoe’. For several years she had a hugely successful partnership with the legendary Les Dawson and John Nettles, appearing in a spectacular production of ’Babes in the Wood’. More recently she has appeared as Fairy Godmother, and for the last two years she has appeared as the Wicked Queen in ’Snow White’.

Ruth’s film appearances include ’Fiddler on the Roof’, ’The Prince and the Pauper’, ’Very Annie Mary’ and a short film entitled ’Mohammed’, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

She has enjoyed an extensive career on radio, with appearances on ’Some of These Days’, ’Women’s Hour’, ’Good Morning Sunday’, ’Simon Says’ and ’This Family Business’. She has recently participated in the BBC Radio Two celebration of ’Under Milk Wood’.

Other television roles include guest appearances with Morcambe and Wise, Bob Monkhouse, the programme ’Hunters Walk’, ’Lloyd George’, Les Dawson’s Blankety Blank’, ‘Give Us a Clue’, ‘Cludeo’, ‘An Actor’s Life for Me’, ‘Animal Ark’, ‘The Famous Five’ and ‘Jack of Hearts’. In 2005, Ruth appeared in Russell T Davies’ ‘Mine All Mine’ for ITV. She, also appeared as the infamous Daffydd’s mother in the Bafta award winning comedy ‘Little Britain’.

Ruth, is a fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Swansea Institute of Education.
